Wonderwall

Setting: Dana is one of the popular girls at her school. She has a crush on Andrew, who is one of the "unpopular" kids. Her friends tease her mercilessly because of it, and she has to decide whether to listen to them or herself.

"Today is gonna be the day that they're gonna throw it back to you," Dana thought to herself as she walked into homeroom on a Wednesday morning. She hated the way her friends made fun of her, and she thought today would be especially bad. She actually worked up the nerve to talk to Andrew the day before, despite her friends' teasing.

"By now you should've somehow realized what you gotta do," she thought, angry that she hadn't made up her mind yet as to what to choose: her friend's respect or her crush.

"I don't believe that anybody feels the way I do about you now," she said quietly as she caught a glimpse of Andrew, alone in his seat, reading a book.

"Backbeat, the word was on the street that the fire in your heart is out," a note that was passed to her during Bio class said. She narrowed her eyes in confusion, wondering what the hell it meant. "I'm sure you've heard it all before but you never really had a doubt," she wrote back. She sent the note back on its way to the mystery writer. She took out another piece of paper and scribbled on it, sealed it, and put Andrew's name on it.

When Andrew recieved the note, he noticed many of his classmates looking at him oddly. He shrugged and opened the note, reading its contents.

"I don't believe that anybody feels the way I do about you now....And all the roads we have to walk along are winding, And all the lights that lead us there are blinding...There are many things that I would like to say to you but I don't know how."

Dana watched Andrew read the note, furrowing his brow. She didn't know if that was a good or bad sign. "Because maybe, you're gonna be the one who saves me?" she thought to herself, concentrating so hard at staring at Andrew she felt she could use her willpower to have him look up. To her surprise, he did, and he smiled at her. Stunned, she smiled back and looked down at her notebook.

"And after all, you're my wonderwall...." she scribbled in her notebook before closing it with a loud sigh.

"Today was gonna be the day?" she asked herself as she walked down the hallway. "But they'll never throw it back to you," she sighed, noticing her friends huddled in a group a short distance away, talking and laughing. One of them looked straight at her and then turned back to the group. Giggles were emitted from the group as she walked by.

Dana felt a prescence close behind her and she swiveled around to become face to face with Andrew. Surprised by him the second time in a day, all she could do was fall into step with him as he walked in long strides.

"By now you should've somehow realized what you're not to do," he said to her, running a hand through his blonde hair. "I don't believe that anybody feels the way I do about you now," he mumbled, nodding his head back to Dana's group of friends, who were no doubt watching the scene in front of them.

"And all the roads that lead to you were winding," Andrew continued. She smiled to herself, throughly enjoying how poetic he was. "And all the lights that light the way are blinding.... There are many things that I would like to say to you, but I don't know how," he blushed slightly and turned to her.

"I said maybe you're gonna be the one who saves me?" he asked thoughtfully a moment after one of the football players pushed him aside to get by. "And after all, you're my wonderwall," he smiled, taking her hand.

She smiled back, and noticed then that her friends' were watching her and Andrew. One of them was so subtle as to point to both of them, opened mouth. Dana rolled her eyes and turned back to Andrew, who was watching her with his light green eyes. She grinned again and and squeezed his hand back.
