Robskitten's May 7, 2003 Review

I think last night was right up there with giving birth on the scale of the best things that have ever happened to me, the difference being that this was sweet pain, not the labor kind!

My brother and I got to the ACC at 6:50 due to the fact that we got stuck in traffic, he got lost and he didn't have a map (didn't need one of course). Anyhoot, we made it there just in time. I went to get my tickets and when I checked them, I had 4th row in front of Adam! YAY! We got to our seats just in time for Maroon5 to start. They totally rocked. They are a very talented bunch of guys!

Next up was Sugar Ray, and they were a total blast! My bro really loved them. Mark is such a cutie, so crazy and hyper. He got everybody going. Loved their set with the chili peppers, motorcycle and Bartender. Two members of Maroon5 came out to get drinks at the bar during SR's set. Everybody cheered for them. Mark thanked Canada for our great beer holding up his beer cup. He said it beat the crap out of their “pussy American beer.” He also said how friendly Canadians are and how nice everybody had been to them. Mark knows how to make people stand up in this country. In the middle of “Fly,” he started singing “Oh Canada.” Now any Canadian knows they have to stand up and sing at that point, eh? So everyone sang along. He knew all the words too, bless him. Everybody had fun singing along to all S.R.'s songs, they were really fun. I liked them a lot and so did everybody else in the arena. He told everybody they were in for a treat when MBT came out.

Near the end of the break before MBT came out they played, “Don't Stop Till You Get Enough.” I couldn't believe it, cause I knew they hadn't been playing it this tour. YAY! Then the lights went down and our boys came out. Everybody was on their feet screaming and cheering from the very first signs of them. They started right into Cold and the place never stopped rocking. Everyone was on their feet all night and sang along with every song. A wonderful highlight for me was when Rob said they were gonna do a different cover. The drummer from Maroon5, I think his name is Ryan, came out to play bongos for them and Rob told him what a good looking bunch of guys M5 were. He said Ryan was looking good, admired his shirt and asked what he was doing after the show.

Then they started the intro to “Remedy”! I love that cover soooo much and I was so thrilled that they were doing it for the first time this tour and it was at my concert! YAY! I promptly left my brother alone and headed up to the front to watch from behind the barricades. A venue security person stopped me and asked to see my ticket. Thank goodness I had it in my pocket so she looked at it and let me go ahead. Woohoo, I had such a great view from that point on! Too bad I'd used up most of my film before I moved up there, I could have had some really great shots. Rob and Adam especially were so close to me! My heart was just racing I was so excited!!! Rob was wearing those lovely tight black striped pants, a black t-shirt and black leather jacket. Yum! The jacket came off right after Cold. You should have heard the screams when he took it off. I dunno if they were hoping for more or what. LMAO! He also had gorgeous shiny black shoes.

Kyle was wearing a bright yellow short-sleeved t-shirt over a burgundy-striped shirt, green pants and green knitted cap. It sure got our attention. LOL.

Adam had on a short sleeved black shirt with dark grey pants. He looked wonderful.

Pookie had on a grey t-shirt and blue jeans.

Paul looked spiffy in a black suit coat over a grey t-shirt and dark grey pants. He also had on a red sweat band on his right wrist.

The setlist as best I can remember it was:

Cold
Real World - A real crowd-pleaser.
All I Need
Soul - Rob explained that the song is about people who keep overcoming obstacles in their lives one after another and still shine and how much they amaze him.
Disease - my brother really loved this song, it's one of his favs.
Could I Be You - big cheers for Paul for writing it.
3AM - Another crowd-pleaser, of course. Everyone was singing along at the top of their lungs.
Mad Season - Rob described it as being a song about so-called friends who “fuck you over” when things get tough. He said he could have called them fair weather friends, but that he had a problem with his language, hoped nobody was offended cause he couldn't help it.
Feel - A great rocker and head-banger song.
Hand Me Down - Paul came down and played the piano and Tony Adams played drums.
If You’re Gone - just Rob and Kyle, totally awesome, Rob called this a “couples skate.”
Bright Lights - Rob sat at the piano for this one.
Bent - Rob went up on the stage behind Paul and sang in front of a large screen with the Bent video clip behind him. He looked so small in front of that great big car!
Remedy - Just a totally awesome cover. A wonderful highlight for me. Rob was really into it.
Busted - I loved getting the chance to see them do this one live. Rob did an amazing job of it.
Unwell – I loved Kyle's banjo on this. The audience cheered very loudly when they started into it.
B2G - Rob described this as the 2AM last call song about people drinking at a bar and how after that time they start to lower their standards more and more, and the girl they hadn't really looked at started looking better or the guy with the tattoo on his cheek didn't seem so bad after all. He said it was really kinda sad. They did a wonderful job, of course.
Downfall – I loved the lighting shining down on Rob like a heavenly light, beautiful. No choir of course, but it sounded wonderful. I also loved the phrases going across the screen behind them.
You're So Real - Rob said this song sounded like it was a good thing, but it really isn't, and he laughed.

ENCORE
For the encore the guys came out, Rob had a beer in one hand and a cigarette in the other. He was holding his beer bottle up to acknowledge the crowd.

So Sad So Lonely – I loved it when Rob sang, “with your ass on fire” and rubbed his butt. A great song to see them do live.
Jet - Rob told everyone to yell out Jet when he pointed the mic at them. And if the people in the back didn't do it because they thought he couldn't see them, then they were just chumps cause he knew they weren't doing it. Everyone had fun with that one.
Long Day - Rob was back up on the high stage behind Paul with a beautiful, colorful oval on the screen behind him.
Push – This was the perfect song to end the show, full of passion and emotion. Everyone was totally ecstatic by the end.

I could actually see the sweat dripping off of Rob's face and hair. I was that close when I moved up. I loved how his hair curled when it got damp. It's so long and beautiful now. It looked gorgeous from the back too. He wiped his face and hair with a cloth a few times, I would have loved to take that home.

At one point he was handed an I Love T.O. shirt and held it up. He said the band was so American they had no idea what T.O. stood for. He then threw it out into the audience. I would have loved to take that home too. Well, I would really have loved to take Rob home, but that just didn't seem to be an option.

Adam was great fun all night interacting with the audience and the fans on his side were having a great time with him. He's such a sweetie! Kyle was amazing on guitar as always! Pookie was in fine form all night too. Paul did a fantastic job on drums and piano, and gave out drumsticks at the end. Kyle and Adam threw out guitar pics before they left too.

I loved watching Jason standing in front of the stage singing along to every song. I shook his hand after the show and said it was nice to meet him and he said it was nice to meet me too. Well, what else could he say? LOL. I was one very tired very happy camper when I left that show, it was one of the highlights of my life. Now I want to go to another show, I'm already suffering withdrawal already. Yay MBT and Toronto fans, you all rock!!!
