August 11, 2001 Review

This review is from Erin (mbx20isb2g) , who can be contacted through the General Discussion Board on the Official Matchbox Twenty site. And check out www.AThousandLostForevers.com!

We got at Post Gazette Pavillion at about 3:15. The night before somebody who was new to the GD PM'ed me and asked me if I knew anybody who wanted a Soundcheck Party Pass and an extra ticket that she had won from the radio. I told her that I would gladly go with her to the Soundcheck Party but I didn't need the extra ticket. She said ok and to meet her there at 3:30.

So I got there and found the B94 setup who was giving us these Soundcheck Party passes. Then Karen showed up. Train then came out to do an interview. We checked in with B94 and at 3:45 one of MBT's tour people came over and gave us our prep talk. She said:

"Ok! No cell phones b/c Adam might come over and grab your cell phone and start talking to that person. Also, on this tour, the guys wanted to do something different than a Meet ‘N’ Greet so the Soundcheck Party is taking place of the Meet ‘N’ Greets. And do not talk. We can't have any noise because the guys are trying to get ready for tonight."

So after she said that lil blurb we went inside and sat down about 8 rows back or so and MBT welcomed us to the Soundcheck. They ran through "Remedy" and did an odd version of "Crutch." :)

Then at one point Rob was like "Hey guys what should we play next? How about some ‘Kody’" and he looked at us in the audience and was like, "Ya guys want me to play Kody?" and we were all like YES YES YES PLAY KODY! (lol) So then Rob said, "Ok, we will." And then they played "Damn"! "Damn"! I love "Damn." After "Damn" they played "Kody." While they were up there doing soundcheck they would all make jokes and talk to us. They talked to us so much its hard to remember every little detail. But Rob said about 3 times "So this is what we do at soundcheck ... just basically fuck around" (lol)

Then Adam and Rob were going back and forth about Lou Pearlman - the guy who found ‘N Sync. Rob said, "I poked Lou Pearlman." Adam said "Oh my God! You can’t touch Lou Pearlman!" Rob said, "But I just poked him!" And Rob stuck his finger out like he was poking someone.

During soundcheck when they were testing Rob’s mic they would turn it off for a while and Rob would be singing but you couldn’t hear him. It looked sooooo weird, but then the sound would come back on all of a sudden and it was strange!

Adam was then joking about ‘N Sync and how they lip syncs to tapes at their shows and they aren’t really playing live music. And Adam said, "Yah, that’s what we are basically doing here. It’s all recorded and when we mess up its not us - its just the tape gone bad." LMAO. Adam was hilarious at sound check. Gotta luv him.

Also, sometime during soundcheck, Pat came out and was flexing his muscles. Adam looked over at Pat and he said, "Pat is strong." Then Pookie ran after Pat backstage and we couldn't see what was going on. But then Adam went to look and came back out and said, "Pookie just beat up Pat." (lol)

Then at one point, Adam was joking around and saying that we all had to go home after soundcheck. Then he pointed at me and said, "That girl, there in the security shirt. She’s frisky. She can stay!" and I freaked! :-O OMG ADAM! lol

Every once in a while Kyle would just start to sing into the mic and then when he realized everyone was looking at him he’d stop and just pretend like nothing happened.

KYLE WAS NEKKID AT SOUNDCHECK TOO.

He didn't have a shirt on. :-D

Towards the end of soundcheck Adam asked, "Does anybody have any questions?" So I raised my hand and asked him, "Did ya guys like the GD Yearbook?" Adam was said, "OH YES! The GD Yearbook! That was beauuutiful! Thank You!!!" And Rob said, "Oh, yeah, thanks!" Cute, huh?

Then someone else asked if they could all pose for a group picture. And Adam said, "Ahhh, yeah, but we gotta get everyone together and we gotta get Paul down here." So then Adam looks back at Paul and yells, "Hey, Paul. Paaaulllll!!! PAUL!" And Paul still didn’t hear him so Adam said, "Hey, everyone, I want ya to start chanting Paul’s name." So we started chanting, "PAUL! PAUL! PAUL!" and he still didn’t know what was going on. Then Paul looked at Adam and said, "What?" (LMAO) Then Adam said, "Get down here for a picture!" Paul said, "Huh? What’s going on?" So then Paul finally got the hint and came down and they all posed for a group picture. Then all the guys thanked us for coming to the soundcheck and being so wonderful.

Before soundcheck, Matchbox Twenty wanted to give us something, so they signed the new tour promos for us and gave one to all of us.

The really awesome thing about this soundcheck was that it was like a little private concert for us - and there were only about 23 of us there. That was just sooo freakin’ awesome that we had our own little private and intimate concert with MBT! Then after Train’s set we all had to meet by the clock to go backstage to a meet ‘n’ greet. More about that later on...

Then after soundcheck we went to a 'BBQ' in the Atlantic Records VIP Tent. So after I ate I ran to will call to get my tickets and tried to meet up with some GD'ers but everything got confused and messed up. So the dinner kinda got messed up :( (Sorry to everyone for that - I didn’t have time to warn all of you about these passes I had because I got them about 18 hrs before the show.)

Oh, and this is what the guys were wearing at soundcheck...

Rob was wearing an orange t-shirt with sunglasses and jeans. Kyle had NO SHIRT and jeans. Pookie was wearing a baseball type shirt and Adam was wearing black and had on SHORTS! Ah! Paul was wearing a black shirt.

My tickets were - 2nd row right in front of ROB! OMG they were AWSOME seats. The old 97's came on and ROCKED THE HOUSE! :)

Then Train came on and did a wonderful set. Pat shook his hips a lot. I never realized how sexy he is (a lot of people have been saying that). :) Rob from Train kept staring at me the whole time - does he do that to people a lot? It scared me and I was wishing he would stop.

Then after Train’s set we went backstage for a M&G with just train because as I mentioned before, Matchbox Twenty isn’t doing the classic M&G. I was backstage when MBT opened :( but they had TV's backstage that you could watch them on. So that was cool :) - So if any of you were wondering.. that’s why they have the cameras there. :)

Well M&G with Train was AWESOME! I went over to Scott first and all I had for him to sign was my Matchbox Twenty CD and I was like "I'm sorry." Well, it was the YOSLY cd so he kinda drew over the guys face. (LMAO) So then the Promo guy from B94 saw it and he told me to make them sign my shirt. Don't make em sign a Matchbox Twenty cd. So I said, "Ok, I'm sorry, but YOU didn’t give me a Train poster when I asked! Ya friggen screwball." (lol) So next I went up to PAT!

Pat was so nice and he signed my shirt. I got my picture with him too and he grabbed me and omg i was soo fricking close to him. My body rubbed against his! AH ah AH! I just wanted to stay there forever. But I didn't! I moved on to Jimmy. He signed and got my picture. He scared me a little bit. I don’t know why.

Then I went and got my pic with Charlie. And then lastly I went up to Rob. He looked at me and said, "Hey I saw you out in the crowd" and I said, "Oooh yeah? I saw ya looking at me. :-P" There was for sure some weird sexual tension there because he seemed flirty and he was just smiling at me so corny. I don’t know, maybe its me, but then when we got our picture he was squeezing me the hardest out of all the guys and I was thinking, "Air! Air! I can’t breathe! It was cute though, and he rocks."

Then I left the Train M&G to go back and watch Matchbox Twenty. They were AMAZING - as always! As I said, they opened with "Crutch." Rob headbanged a little. But not as much as he did in Cuyahoga Falls - and sweat....omg Rob’s sweat was flying EVERYWHERE! Yay!

Damn, I can't remember during what song, but Rob jumped up on the piano and danced!!!

They had the screen thing going on again. "Remedy" rocked so much live! omg its the perfect cover. And then They played "KODY"!

A beach ball was being thrown around and Rob got it up on stage and he said, "It’s MINE!" (lol) and then he threw it back out and some guy caught it and kept it.

During "Mad Season," Rob did the whole video camera on the screens, but then he lay down on the stage and under Kyle and got a crotch shot of Kyle!!!!!! SCORE! Kyle’s crotch was up on the screen - and Rob got Kyle’s crotch and ass from all angles! ::dies::

Pookie and Kyle had it going on! They kept jamming with each other. It was very cute. Rob also flashed us his tummy again.

Kyle also looked at me during the show and smiled. Rob looked at me too and we sang to each other - omg!
When rob was going around and introducing the band he called Paul "Paul the Destroyer Doucette!"(lol)

They closed with "Push" and here is what they were wearing: Rob wore black shirt navy blue pants
Pookie was wearing leather
Adam had a checkered type shirt with black pants
Kyle had a button down light blue shirt with flowers on the chest and torn jeans and sandals
Paul had an Allentown shirt on and sunglasses

I just want to say thanks to all the GD'ers I met at this show! You guys rock and there were so many of you! Love you all! And even though I'll be moving to Providence, I will definitely fly back down to PA to go to a show will all of you again. It was great and thanks for all of the memories!
