Alicia's March 27, 2001 Review

I left my house in Phoenix around 12 to go to the airport. My dad and I got there and the people said that our flight had been cancelled, but then said that they could put us on a 2:30 flight. Thank God, I almost had a heart attack!! We arrived in Albuquerque about 3:45 and went to have dinner with some of my family (I used to live there.)

We left for the concert at 6 and got there around 6:30. I bought some Matchbox memorabilia and then went to our seats. I was really afraid that we wouldn't have good seats because stupid Ticketmaster said that you just buy a ticket and sit anywhere, but we found out that you had to have different tickets to get on the floor. By that time most of the stands were full and we couldn’t upgrade because the floor was sold out. But then we found an awesome spot! The seats went all the way around the arena so we were able to sit to the side of the stage (Kyle’s side). We sat by the equipment, which was cool to see everything going on. I was like twenty feet from the stage. Plus there was this platform that they would come over to once and awhile! It was good that I wasn't up front because a lot of people got squashed. But then Jason could have helped me out of my predicament (lol!). I also got to see the bands getting on stage and leaving. They were about five feet away then! When Kyle left, he waved at me! ::screaming:: Marisol and Jason walked right by where I was sitting too!

On one of the trunks they had for the equipment, they had all of these personal pictures of the Matchsticks together and w/their families! I even got to see a picture of Maison! There was also a picture of Kyle and Mackenzie. He was giving her bunny ears! So cute!

Lifehouse was awesome; I seemed to be the only one who actually knew the words though! Everclear was also really good. I didn't think I would like them, but I really did! It was funny because girl's were throwing bras onto the stage and Craig took them and hung them on his mike and then on the neck of his guitar. All the guitar players put one on the necks of their guitars and were swinging them around! Their extra guitarist ended up throwing one at Kyle.

During Everclear, Kyle went and talked to his tech! I was so excited! I could have called him over but didn’t want to bug him.

Then Matchbox Twenty came on. I had been waiting for that moment for 2 1/2 years and almost started crying! It was soo awesome! I screamed so much that I could barely talk anymore! I was bummed though because most of the people around me weren't very excited. Even the people who were up front weren't that excited! I don't know what was wrong with them!

The guys have so much energy and you can tell they love what they do. I had soo much fun! The guys would come over close to me and would smile and wave! Adam came over to our side of the stage and almost got hit in the head with the lights when they came down! Luckily he saw them before he got hit!!

I don't remember the setlist, but it was probably the same as every other show. They played Mamma's Don't Let Your Baby's Grow Up To Be Cowboys for their cover. Adam was wearing a maroon shirt w/black pants. Rob had on blue pants w/cowboy boots and I think a black shirt. Kyle was wearing blue Levi's, Birkenstocks, a white T-shirt, and a button-down shirt that he later took off. Pookie had on leather pants with a blue shirt. I couldn't really see Paul because his cymbals were in the way but I think he was wearing a black T-shirt and jeans.

I really wish I would have had a camera; I would have gotten great pictures!! They frisked us, but I could have hid one under my jacket! This other girl had a camera and was taking pictures. The security guys were standing right there and didn't get mad. Oh well, maybe next time!

I tried really hard to get a guitar pick but they only throw them to the front. One of the security guys looked for me but there were none left. I tried to get the attention of the tech, but they must of had ear plugs in because they didn't hear me!

I wanted to go wait for the busses, but my dad didn't want to. Maybe next time my mom will go with me and I can meet them. She's more adventurous!

Well, that's my experience! You must go to a Matchbox Twenty concert! They are awesome!. Sorry for rambling on forever!
