June 6th and 7th, 1998 Reviews

These reviews are from Joanscrazy

I live in Illinois, close to St. Loius and decided to team up with some of my mb20 chatroom buddies to see the June 6th show in Knoxville Tn and the June 7th show in Greenville Sc. Tim, my hubby, and I planned to leave friday after he got off work. Well after some last minute packing and running around we hit the highway at 6:00 p.m. central time. We drove only stopping twice along the way to Knoxville and we actually found our hotel no problem. We stayed at the Holiday Inn right next to the Worlds Fair Park where the concert was to take place. We reached the hotel at 2:00 a.m. eastern time so we made the trip in 7 hours, which we thought was good timing. Our room was on the 10th floor, a "private level" they called it cause you had to have an elevator key to reach that floor. But come to find out you can walk up to the front desk and tell them you have friends staying on the 10th floor and they give you a key!!! LOL

So at 8:30 a.m. I call Chrisse (aka RainyMatchMaker) to let her know we made it and what room we we're in. She was on her way to pick up Joe (aka BigE) in Kentucy. At 9:30 a.m. I called Shiela (aka gecko) who was going to pick up Alicia (aka tweeka) from the airport. We all decided to meet at the hotel and walk over to the concert. Sherri (aka SugarNHoney) with her husband Jay met us and we walked over to the venue to watch the roadies set up for the show. And later we went back again after meeting up with Chrissie and Joe to watch some more.

A little before 5:00 p.m. we all met to walk to the venue and wait to get in as the show was general admission and we wanted to get front row. The venue was a big open field. We stood in line for 2 hours before they let us in, but we could see their soundcheck from where we waited.

Once the gates opened we ran like mad for the front and we got it. I had brought Beanie Babies to throw at mb20 and gave one to each of the girls to throw at that their designated band members. I had Adams. Rebekah came on and she was good and sassy, reminded me a bit of No Doubt. You could see Paul at the side ofthe stage taking pictures and soon Rob, Paul, and Joey all sat on the side of the stage watching Rebekah. Soon after Rebekah was over the crowd started getting pushy, and when mb20 came on, all hell broke loose! = ( The guy next to me became my best friend trying to keep everyone off of me and his son. He told everyone I was his daughter! I'm 22 but can easily pass for 16. I was so crowded and scared. Security gaurds were constantly pulling people over my head out of the crowd who couldn't take the madness. I was totally separated from my husband and most of my friends. I held on for dear life to Chrissie and somehow both of us managed to keep our front row place. I saw Sherri pulled out of the crowd at one point.

The performance was awesome what I could see of it when there wasn't a gaurd pulling someone over my head. I wondered why they picked me to pull everyone over, but I figured it was because I was right in the center of the stage.

They played everything from Yourself or Someone Like You, "You and I and I", "Tired", "Heavy", "Time After Time", and "You Can't Always Get What You Want." At one point, four of us threw our beanies. Mine landed right at Adam's feet, Brian's a little in front of him, Kyle's to the side of him and Rob's right at the base of his microphone stand. A roadie quickly grabbed Adam's Velvet panther, and Brian's Cubbie bear. Rob stepped on his Valentino bear and set the microphone stand on him a few times. Poor Valentino!! LOL I looked up later to notice Rob's and Kyle's beanies were gone too; probably picked up by a roadie. When mb20 was walking off stage for their first break, Alicia threw Pauls (a rooster) right at his feet and he picked it up and made it dance in Robs face! LMAO!!! = )

After the show we tried to wait by the busses to meet them but there was gates blocking them and security made us leave! = ( We walked back to the hotel bruised and battered. Sherri and Joe had left like 5 or 6 songs into the show. Tim, Shiela, Chrisse, Alicia, and I decided we needed food and so we hit a Taco Bell then decided to drive around and see if we could find the boys' bus.

We saw the bus driving around and caught up with it at the Hyatt. Chrisse decided to get a room there. We saw Brian walk in but no one had the guts to say hey; and then he ducked into an elevator. We hung around the lobby hoping the rest of the band would come in but then we had to go back to the holiday inn to get the others stuff. Actually poor Alicia had nothing to get because the airport had lost her luggage!! We saw the roadie bus at the Holiday Inn parking up; I guess to get ahead and go to Greenville.

I was so tired and beat up that I decided to just go to bed but Sherri and Joe hooked up with Shiela, Chrisse, and Alicia to the Hyatt to see if they could meet the band. They met Kyle and Paul and talked to Adam for some time. They told them that the beanies were from me and Adam said he had his panther in his room! = ) Shiela, Chrisse, and Alicia passed Rob in the hall and he sneezed and all they said was " bless you!" LOL They didn't want to bother him.

I was so upset the next morning that I didnt go with the others so I decided Tim and I would check out and head over to the Hyatt with Joe to hopefully meet them on thier way out. We weren't there long when Kyle walked by. Joe waved at him and said "Hi" as he had met him the night before and I sat there like a dumb@ss in awe scared to say something. Tim smacked me in the leg and finally I jumped up and asked him for his autograph and a picture. He nicely obliged. Next we caught Joey walking out and I got his autograph and a picture. He was a really laid back kinda guy. Then I saw Paul signing autographs and I ran up to him and told him I was the freak with the beanie babies and he said he didn't think that qualified me as a freak!! LOL He had on a Spice Girls T shirt and was so cute bouncing off the walls! = ) I got his autograph and a picture. Next I caught Brian and gave him my tape insert to sign and he seen that the others signed it over the lyrics and asked me why they signed it there. I froze speechless. Ummmm....I dunno....I had no answer...Next was Adam! I told him the I gave him a panther cause the one time I talked to him in the chatroom I asked if he liked hockey and he said he liked the Panthers. He said he remembered talking to me! = ) I gave him the Peace bear beanie I had with me and he seemed thrilled about it! He reached into his pocket and said " I've got something for you!!" and pulls out a multi-colored pick! Wow! = ) Then he says "I gotta have a hug!" and was talking about wether or not he was going to take his bear home or with him on his next trip...I told him to take it with him! He kept talking about how cute the bear was and saying "I gotta have another hug!" = ) Tim snapped a photo of us hugging! = ) He signed my insert and handed it back and said "Here, I wrote you a book!" LOL = ) I told them we was coming to Greenville to see them again and Paul and Adam told us to have a safe trip!! I was like "You have a safe trip!!!"

Adam was the last on the bus and it pulled out so I guess I missed Rob....Oh well on to Greenville! Chrissie took Alicia to the airport cause they got her stuff back but not before she spilled soda all over her only dress!

Greenville was a 3 hour trip. Timmons arena sits like 6000 people with general admission in front and bleacher seats behind. Alicia, Chrissie, and Shiela decided to take thier chances with the gen. ad. crowd while Tim, Joe, Sherri, and I stayed in the bleachers but we had 2nd row anyways. They said after the show that the crowd was nothing like the Knoxville crowd. Thank goodness!

The mb20 show was pretty much the same but since it was inside the light show was better and the video screen was up where they didn't have it the night before. And Rob was more wired and jumping around more. The song list was the same except Rob did "Rest Stop" in stead of "Time After Time." Someone threw a pencil at Rob and he took a moment to tell the crowd that its okay to throw some things, but if you threw a pencil you are an @sshole! LOL He said "I'll be up here and have my groove going on when WHAP! right in the f**king face with a quarter! @sshole!!!" LMAO!!!!

After the show we waited by the busses as close as they would let us and the bus driver said they would be out to sign autographs, but we were later informed they wouldnt. = ( We were disappointed but we understood with it being their last show for a while that they wanted to get home and they had early flights to catch in Atlanta, Ga the next morning. But we didn't leave until we saw the bus with the boys on it pull out. Well I think I was pretty lucky meeting 5 out of 6! = ) Sorry this is so long! LOL
