Push

Setting: Rob and his girlfriend, who Rob loved very much, had just gotten into a major argument. She stormed out of the house, with him following behind. He wanted to reconcile the relationship, but she was against it. She had always taken advantage of him, but he was too involved with her to really notice.

Rob saw her run down the street. He ran after her, calling her name. She turned around and faced him.

She said, "I don’t know if I’ve ever been good enough."

Rob gave her an odd look as she continued.

"I’m a little bit rusty, and I think my head is caving in," she said, holding her hand up to her pounding head. Today was not one of her good days.

Rob was just about to open his mouth to say something, but she interrupted him.

"And I don’t know if I’ve ever been really loved by a hand that’s touched me, and I feel like something’s gonna give and I’m a little bit angry," she finished, her eyes flashing fire.

"Well," started Rob. "This ain’t over, no not here, not while I still need you around."

"You don’t owe me," she snapped back.

"We might change," Rob pleaded.

"Yeah we just might feel good," she mocked, still furious. She walked to Rob, and stood face to face with him.

"I wanna push you around, well I will, well I will," she practically screamed in his face. He backed away, surprised at this sudden emotional outburst.

"I wanna push you down, well I will, well I will," she repeated, yelling at the top of her lungs. "I wanna take you for granted, I wanna take you for granted, yeah well I will," she said, putting her hand on the expensive necklace Rob had bought for her a few months ago. She said she would love him more if he bought it for her.

"What the hell do you want from me?" Rob screamed back in anger. "What, do you think I've lied to you or something?"

She said "I don’t know why you ever would lie to me," a little more calmly. She recommenced walking. She soon came to a bridge, and looked at the water beneath her. Rob came up beside her.

"Like I’m a little untrusting when I think that the truth is gonna hurt ya," said Rob, his eyes narrowing. "And I don’t know why you couldn’t just stay with me you couldn’t stand to be near me when my face don’t seem to want to shine cuz it’s a little bit dirty," he said, stopping to take a breath. He looked at her.

"Well?" she said impatiently, waiting for him to continue.

"Don’t just stand there, say nice things to me, cuz I’ve been cheated, I’ve been wronged, and you you don’t know me, well I can’t change," Rob growled back.

"I won’t do anything at all!!" he added. She glared at him, and spat in his face.

"I wanna push you around, well I will, well I will," she hollered, shoving him backwards. Rob grabbed onto the side of the bridge to balance himself. "I wanna push you down, well I will, well I will," she threatened, pointing to the river far below. Rob gulped with the knowledge that his girlfriend could kick his ass easily.

"I wanna take you for granted," she said again. She reached into his right hand pocket and took out ten dollars, and shoved it in her back pocket. "Yeah well I will," she whispered into his ear as she crossed the road that was on the bridge. She looked down at the water on that side.

"Oh but don’t bowl me over," said Rob, rolling his eyes.

"Just wait a minute," she said, turning around. She raised an eyebrow.

"Well it kinda fell apart," he said, talking about the relationship. "Things get so crazy, crazy."

"Don’t rush this baby, don’t rush this baby," Rob finished. He looked at her hopefully, still besmitten. He really did want to work it out, even if his anger made it seem otherwise.

His girlfriend laughed in his face. "I wanna push you around, well I will...well..I will. I wanna push you down, well I will...well I will. I wanna take you for granted," she said again.

"Yeah?" Rob yelled back.

"Yeah," she hissed.

"Yeah?" He asked again.

"I wanna take you, take you, yeah," she added. "I will."

"Yeah?" He asked again, gritting his teeth.

"I will," she repeated. "I will, yeaaahh, push you around and drag you down, I wanna push you around. Well, I will." she finished, slapping him in the face for no apparent reason and walking away.

Rob watched her disappear on the other side of the bridge. He put his hand over his mouth to stifle a sob, and turned towards the side of the bridge. He looked down at the river far beneath him. He reached into his back pocket, and took out a little box. He opened the box and gazed inside. A tear dropped down onto the ring in the box, a beautiful diamond ring. As soon as Rob realized he was crying, he snapped the box shut and yelled an obscenity as he chucked the box over the bridge and into the water.
