(11/19/02, 10 a.m. ET) -- Matchbox Twenty releases its new album, More Than You Think You Are, on Tuesday (November 19). The album, the band's third, features the single, "Disease."

Rob Thomas (news) told LAUNCH he compared More Than You Think You Are against Matchbox Twenty's multiplatinum albums Yourself Or Someone Like You and Mad Season.

"Right when it was done we did it against all of it. This record is louder. There's a processed sound to the last two records, not in a bad way. That was just the kind of band that we were and the records that we were making. On this one, there's more of an organic sound," he said.

Thomas also shared what the band was trying to achieve with More Than You Think You Are. "You know, the guitar goes right rarrrrr! Right in your ear. All the records that we listened to, that's what they sound like. If we write a slow song... All the slow songs that we love are like the Jayhawks or the Wilco slow stuff, the great steel guitar. Rock now isn't rock 'n' roll. It's heavy and it's loud and its hard, but it's not rock 'n' roll. Rock 'n' roll to us was Tom Petty (news) and Fleetwood Mac and even old Elton John (news), all that stuff. So we wanted to get back sonically to that sound. We wanted the record to sound like all the records we grew up with."

Matchbox Twenty was scheduled to appear on The Late Show With David Letterman (news - Y! TV) on Monday night (November 18), the band is set for Late Night With Conan O'Brien (news - Y! TV) Friday (November 23), and Last Call With Carson Daly November 29.
